Bigger Than Us

This "Earthrise" photo taken from Apollo 8 in 1968 is among my favorites. (I make no secret of the fact that I'm fascinated by space.)

It fits with my image of God.

I know some people have very personal imagery of God: walking with Jesus; walking side by side with the Lord; the Good Shepherd.

For me God is BIG.

I love that this picture was taken on Christmas Eve. It's another reminder that we are a small part of a much larger picture: That God, creator of this vast universe, cared enough to send a child to lead us. And that I, and millions of others around the world, have chosen to follow this child as a model of how to live and how to love.

Lutheran Church Wilmington

As a Reconciling in Christ congregation of the ELCA, we believe that the gospel is God's gift to all people, shared unconditionally and without regard to race, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, socio-economic or family status, age, physical or mental abilities, outward appearance, or religious affiliation. We seek racial equality and justice. In this way, we live into the truth written in Ephesians (2:14)—that Christ breaks down the dividing walls between us and makes us one.
