Power
When Sue and I went to bed last night the lights flickered a few times but stayed on as the rain came down hard. Then, suddenly, it was very dark. “Oh, No!” There was NO INTERNET. How would we be able to receive alerts from the power company as to the duration of the outage? Of significantly more importance, how would we be able to finish the mindless computer games we were playing through website links on our cell phones!
As I looked around after waking up this morning, I was happy to see that the rain had stopped. The lingering question was whether the power had come back on.
I spotted the nightstand clock, and was relieved it was showing time again. I knew that writing this blog was on my morning agenda and I was happy I would be able to use my computer. Without it and the internet, I wouldn’t be able to create and then transmit to the church office an electronic version of my text for inclusion in today’s eCourier.
It’s my belief most of us take for granted we will have electrical power available to use whenever we need it. Available, at least, almost all of the time.
There is another power, though, we do have that is available ALL of the time. It is the power of God to help us when something turns our lives into a period of darkness. We are reminded of this power in many verses from the Bible, such as:
Colossians 1:11 – May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from his glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience.
Ephesians 3:16 – I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being.
Romans 15:13 – May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We all have experienced or likely will experience times of personal darkness. Remember, our powerful God is with us at all times, to guide us, to sustain us, to lift us up, to offer hope. Through His power we can move forward from our darkness into a time and place where that darkness subsides. Glory be to God!
